2011 年に 4 名で発足した PHOTOGRAPHIC ART ASIA（PAA) の美術活動は今年で 10 周年を迎え、会員数も21 名に成長しました。つきましては、来る１１月２５日から３０日まで、参加作家10名の力作が結集した展覧会を東京・南青山のギャラリー5610で開催いたします。今回は10 年目にあたる展覧会を記念して、参加作家の作品集を電子書籍の形で制作しました。この会の趣旨は作家同士がお互いに刺激しあいながら作品制作に切磋琢磨すると同時に、多くの皆様に美術写真の魅力を知っていただくことにあります。この展覧会と作品集を通して、私達の創作活動の成果を少しでも楽しんでいただければ幸いです。
PHOTOGRAPHIC ART ASIA (PAA) became active with four members in 2011. That number has grown to 21 as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. Today we are happy to announce that the PAA 2021 Exhibition will be held at Gallery 5610, Tokyo, November 25 through 30. To commemorate this 10th year of exhibiting, an electronic book has been created featuring a collection of work by the ten artists participating in the PAA 2021 exhibition. The mission of PAA is to enhance its members' artistic visions through group exhibitions and other creative activities and, at the same time, spread its vision globally to all who appreciate fine art. We all hope that you will enjoy the results of our creative activities through our exhibition and the collection of our works in the book.

革命後のキューバは主要な貿易先を失い経済発展が遅れた。 食料や日用品は悲しいほどに乏しく、廃墟のような歴史的な建物に暮らし、主要な交通手段は今でも徒歩と馬車での生活だ。 しかし、不思議なことにキューバでは見るものすべてが輝いて見える。 エメラルド色の海と南国の風にそよぐ植物を背景に、鮮やかなパステルカラーの古い建物や自動車、街の至る所で聞こえる音楽とそれに合わせて楽しく踊る人々。 そこからは貧しさに伴う惨めさや治安の不安を感じない。 この社会主義国では、楽観的で優しさと思いやりのある生き方と、芸術やスポーツを愛する心が、資本主義国のモノやカネに代わって人々の心のよりどころになっているようにさえ思える。 一方、革命を経験していない若者たちが、海辺に座りインターネットをアクセスしながら、長い間無言で水平線の彼方を眺めていた光景も私の心に残った。

今回の展示は私が２０１８年後半にキューバを旅した印象を作品にしたものです。言葉や習慣がわからないキューバへの冒険旅行を通して、経済活動を軸足とする資本主義に浸かっていて忘れていた大切な価値観をもつ世界が存在していることに圧倒されました。展示は大判プリントを中心とした２５点のカラー作品です。マット紙と顔料インクで創り出す独特な発色の写真美術の味をお楽しみいただければ幸いです。
CUBA
After the revolution, Cuba lost its major trading partners and left behind in economic development. Food and daily necessities are sadly scarce, living in ruined historic buildings, and the main mode of transportation is still walking and carriage. But strangely, everything you see in Cuba looks shining: the emerald sea, the tropical breeze, old buildings and cars painted in bright pastel colors, the music you hear everywhere in the city and the people who dance happily. Strangely, the feeling of misery and insecurity with poverty cannot be found. Instead of reliance on goods and money often found in capitalist countries, optimistic, kind and compassionate nature of people and their heart that loves music, dance, art and sports seem to be the core value of everyday life. On the other hand, the sight of young people, born after the revolution, sitting silently on the beach and watching the horizon while accessing the internet left an impression on me.
This exhibition is a work of my impression of traveling to Cuba in late 2018. Through my adventure trip to Cuba, where I did not speak the language and had no knowledge of their customs, I was overwhelmed by the existence of a society with important values that I had forgotten because I had been immersed in the lifestyle of economy-centered capitalism. The exhibition is 25 color prints mostly in large format. We hope that you will enjoy the unique taste of photographic art created with matte paper and color-pigment ink.
